Greece retained its lead in the Nations League group after a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in Thessaloniki on Thursday. Greece initially took control of the match, with Fotis Ioannidis scoring the first goal in the 23rd minute, courtesy of a header from Giorgos Masouras.
Masouras extended Greece’s lead in first-half stoppage time. He capitalized on a defensive error by the Netherlands, finishing from close range after Ioannidis set up the opportunity.
The Netherlands mounted a comeback in the second half. Virgil van Dijk reduced the deficit in the 59th minute, heading in a corner from Joey Veerman. Despite Greece goalkeeper Konstantis Tzolakis making a crucial late save, the Netherlands managed to equalize in the 89th minute with Tijjani Reijnders scoring from close range.
With the draw, Greece stands at seven points, maintaining a two-point lead over the Netherlands. Greece is set to host Germany next on Sunday.
